Google Remarketing

Freelance Google Remarketing: win back the visitors who left without converting

More than 95% of visitors leave a site without acting. Remarketing reaches them again on Display, YouTube and Search with a message matched to what they saw. I build the audiences, the campaigns and the measurement behind them.

Remarketing only works with clean audiences

Remarketing relies on lists: product page visitors, abandoned carts, article readers, past customers. Those lists are built in GA4 and Google Ads from your tag. If the tag is badly placed, or if consent signals are missing for visitors from regions that require them, the lists fill up poorly or not at all.

That’s why I always start by checking the collection. Only then do I create useful segments: not “all visitors, 30 days”, but audiences by intent and by funnel stage, with exclusions so you don’t chase people who already bought.

Remarketing types I set up

  • Display remarketing: responsive banners across the Google network, frequency-capped
  • Dynamic remarketing: the exact product viewed, for e-commerce via Merchant Center
  • Remarketing lists for Search (RLSA): stronger bids on your past visitors
  • YouTube video remarketing: short sequences for warm visitors
  • Similar audiences and audience signals for Performance Max
  • Customer Match: retargeting and exclusion of existing customers from your own list

The mistakes that make remarketing annoying and useless

  • No frequency cap: the same banner fifteen times a day
  • No exclusion of converters: chasing people who already bought
  • One catch-all list, one message for everyone
  • Membership duration out of step with the buying cycle
  • Empty lists for consented regions because consent isn’t passed to Google

Every campaign I deliver has a frequency cap, exclusions, a duration consistent with your decision cycle, and a message that matches where the visitor stands.

Measuring what remarketing really adds

Remarketing is often credited with conversions that would have happened anyway. I treat view-through conversions with caution, compare periods with and without, and give you an honest reading of incrementality rather than a flattering ROAS.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions

Is remarketing compliant with privacy laws?

Yes, when consent is collected where required and passed to Google through Consent Mode v2. Without consent, no advertising cookie is set and the person doesn’t enter the lists. I configure this with your consent platform, for EU visitors and for US states with privacy laws.

How many visitors do I need to run remarketing?

Google requires a minimum of active users per list (generally 100 on Display, 1,000 on Search and YouTube). Below that, ads don’t serve. I’ll tell you quickly whether your traffic is sufficient.

Does dynamic remarketing work on Shopify or WooCommerce?

Yes. It needs a Merchant Center feed and a tag that passes the ID of the product viewed. I install it in your back office and verify that site IDs match the feed IDs.
